"Back in '96, I formed a band called Double RR Country with lead singer, Rob Wagner. Rob was nervous at first on stage but he had that natural Nashville voice. We played the smoky bars in the Soo and I'd sneak in one of my songs each set. I also started a workshop for songwriters when Ken Denardo showed up."

As a Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) coordinator, Ray held his monthly forum for aspiring songwriters but the meetings gradually transcended down to Ray and Ken.

"Individually, we had each written some 300+ songs. Learning to collaborate with another songwriter was another lesson. Kenny was the melody master on piano and I was the story teller. We formed a natural team."

"Kenny would bring me great melodies and I'd try to drum up the lyrics. Collaborating and recording was another lesson in song writing. Since I had a very limited vocal range, Kenny would find a vocalist and produce a demo. Writing a song is a start, finding the right artist for the song is another challenge. Then you re-write and produce several demo versions for the artist. Then you have to find the right producer."

Ray and Ken were the principal songwriters of "My First True Love" which was the trailer theme song to the CBC TV documentary "40 Year Secret". They continue to write songs, hoping to find the right artist for their songs.
